We are heading into a new age of fashion and recycled, upcycled fashion will be a growing industry in the future green world. People have been recycling fashion for centuries already and now many designers are reworking components of the past to make future wearable garments and accessories. “Trashion” is a term coined in New Zealand in the early part of this 21st century. Trashion has been popular amongst communities and high streets alike and setting new trends for our fashion industries.

Trashion is a collection ACX is very passionate about. Trashion is hand picked recycled or upcycled items our suppliers use to make clothing, jewellery and accessories. Many suppliers use an end of life good such as old aluminium cooking pots or old car tyres and up-cycle them into something usable, wearable, fashionable and most importantly environmentally friendly.
“Trashion (a portmanteau of “trash” and “fashion”) is a term for art, jewellery, fashion and objects for the home created from used, thrown-out, found and repurposed elements.”
Take for instance our Double Leaf Earrings by Zakali Jewelry. Handmade in Kenya, by both men and woman from local communities. These earrings are cut from aluminium that has been recycled from cooking pots. Zakali Jewelry produces handmade fashion jewellery using the skills of wire work, metal cutting and electroplating. The project first started as a garbage collection project in the slums of Nairobi. Recycling remains very close to the heart of this supplier and much of the material used is reclaimed or recycled.
“And now, I’m just trying to change the world, one sequin at a time.” Lady Gaga
With our worlds natural resources under threat and landfills and seas overflowing with man-made waste it’s important that all of us consumers must re-look at our buying behaviour of fashionable products. ACX chooses sustainable and conscious suppliers of stylish, appealing, high street goods. From recycling of tyres, cooking pots, copper wires, cooking pots, seat belts and much more, one is sure to find a piece for your collection.
So play your part in our world and make a conscious decision when purchasing something online or offline.
